Friday September 19th: Whisky Tasting: Campbeltown Malts

Friday 19th September: 7:45pm – 10pm
@ Le Mouton Rouge
£15 adv tickets
We are happy to announce the return of our whisky tasting sessions, starting with an in depth look at the history of Campbeltown malts.
imgresCampbeltown sits on the Mull of Kintyre peninsula protruding from the western coast, during the mid-1800s it was the epicentre of Scotland’s distilling industry, with 28 distilleries at one stage in the 1830s. Today, however, this number has dwindled to just three: Springbank, which also produces the peated Longrow and the unpeated Hazelburn; Glen Scotia; and recent addition Glengyle, home of Kilkerran malt.
Campbeltown whiskies are a curious mix. Characteristics include a defined dryness with a pungency, smoke and a solid salinity,  ‘mist rolling in from the sea’. It is the proximity to the coast that gives the whisky its salty tang.. Imagine a cross between the Lowlands and the Western Highlands with a pinch of salt thrown in for good measure.
With some fascinating whiskies to try and lots to discuss this should be a belter of a tasting.
Please email or phone us to reserve your spot, otherwise do pop in to the store to purchase a ticket.

An exciting prospect for sure!

Friday September 12th: 7:45pm – 10pm

@ Le Mouton Rouge Wine Merchants
Tickets: £15 per person

We are delighted to announce that our first English Wine Tasting will feature one of the most influential and outstanding English Wine producers as special guests: NYETIMBER.

This is a rare event and an amazing opportunity to learn about the world of English wine…

Nyetimber is situated in the heart of West Sussex, on what is regarded as a perfect site for the production of sparkling wine. The estate was founded in 1988 and now has eight carefully selected vineyards across Sussex and Hampshire, producing some breathtaking fizz!

We will be tasting the full Nyetimber range. An ideal way to learn the intricate and subtle differences between their Brut, Demi-Sec, Blancs de Blancs, Single Vineyard and Rose, all sparkling! We will be discussing cool climate wine production and the benefits of Southern England’s climate and soil type.
As an added bonus to this tasting we will also have one of London’s most innovative and dedicated brewers, showcasing a lovely beer inspired by the urban bee-keepers of London: Hiver – honey beer!

All our best wishes

Meet the brewers

Over the past year we have had great fun expanding our range of traditional and local English ales and last Thursday, Martin, the Brewer of the Canterbury Ales and Jon Mills from the Foundry Pub, two great beer makers from the area were in the store with samples and plenty of chit chat for the budding beer enthusiast.
Missed it? We’ll be having another session in January – just watch this space for details…
We now hold an On License for the premises so any evening please feel free to pop in for a pint of great local beer!

2000 Domaine du Vieux Telegraphe Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Crau

Just arrived is this classic red Châteauneuf-du-Pape, very fine and elegant. It has a beautiful colour, an earthy nose, but one of freshness, lively and promising. At the same time, it is suave and rich on the finish. The tannins are supple and ripe with no dryness. With its structure and complexity,  this red wine will go well with game, lamb or risotto with wild mushrooms cooked in a red wine sauce.

The Cuban Cigar experience

Cigars need to be grown in humid and warm regions, such as the Caribbean. Traditionally Cuba is the premier centre of cigar manufacture and the Cuban cigar is the benchmark against which to judge all others.  All Cuban cigars are called ‘Puros’ meaning pure as they are made purely of tobaccos from the country where the cigars were rolled.

Le Mouton Rouge stocks  a wide range of Cuban cigar brands: Partagas, Monte Cristo, Romeo y Julieta, Partagas  among others – each cigar is a small luxury.
