A taste of France – Fri 31st Jan

To kick off our tastings for the new year we thought we would take a mini,”Tour de France” this Friday evening.
We will be hosting a Wine Tasting event at the Refectory Cafe opposite the store between 7pm and 10pm, with a selection of nibbles to complement some of our favourite wines from around the country.
One of France’s National treasures is their fantastic wine. What better way to learn a little more, have some fun and meet some great people, than to sample a variety of grapes and flavours from a few of the different wine producing regions, including:
Loire Valley
Rhone Valley
With plenty to chat about and some super wines to try, this should be a lovely way to start the years wine journey!
Tickets are £15 per person and limited to 25 people so please get in touch to reserve your place.
We hope to see you all soon.
All the very best

3rd October: Forgotten France and Lost Grapes

Friday October 3rd 7:45-10 @Le Mouton Rouge – tickets in advance £15
As summer turns to autumn, harvest approaches and the winter nights begin to draw in…
Yet never fear, our in store tastings are always a reason to feel warm and cheery!
Autumn Grapes
Next Friday we will be returning to the wines of France, a wonderful wine producing country, with many familiar regions, grapes and styles. Leaving traditional favourites aside, we shall be taking a look at some of the the forgotten wine producing regions of France and unusual grape varieties that don’t often pop up.
If you are unfamiliar with the tantalising aromas and flavours of wines from Marmandais, the Auvergne, Corsica and Jura or lesser known grape varieties such as Grolleau, Arbouriou or Folle blanche, then this is an exciting opportunity to try them out and perhaps learn a little more.
We will be joined on the night by Didier Cappa, a jovial wine enthusiast, whose aim is often to seek out such unconventional yet fantastic wines from small producers across France! He will be guiding us through our wines and together we will be unearthing some absolute gems from little known French appellations that are often overlooked.
Our tastings tend to be jolly, informal events, and this really will be a fascinating insight into some rare and delicious wines.
Now held in store at Le Mouton Rouge places are limited, so please email or call us to reserve your place, alternatively feel free to pop in to the store to purchase a ticket!

24th October: Whisky tasting – recently revived distilleries

It’s that wonderful time of the month again, Whisky Tasting Night! Next Friday , 24th October at 7:45, we shall be hosting another fun evening, focusing on two recently revived distilleries:
Glenglassaugh & Benriach
By no means household names, these two old distilleries have faced long periods of closure over their long history but now they are now independently owned and are once again producing a range of fantastic single malt whisky!
Following a complete refurbishment by the new owners the distillery was re-opened on 24 November 2008 by the First Minister for Scotland Alex Salmond MSP who praised the company for their commitment to using the traditional equipment and methods to once again make the unique whisky which is produced at Glenglassaugh.
“It was with delight, while sworn to secrecy, that I witnessed Benriach gaining its independence, when a team led by the experienced and infectiously enthusiastic Billy Walker acquired the Distillery. This independence will allow BenRiach to unlock its secrets and bring its fine and surprising malts, officially to the market in their natural state for the first time. There cannot be a single true lover of whisky who will not rejoice because of it.” – Jim Murray
We will be working our way through the spectrum of colours, aromas and flavours of the whisky world with a few exciting surprises along the way. With a variety of different cask finishes and ages to try, this is set to be another jolly old night!
Tickets are £15 and places are limited so please get in touch via email and phone to reserve your place or pop into the shop to grab a ticket.
