After some great events over the past twelve months, to launch this years Whisky Tastings, we will be sampling a few wee drams from a range of rare, hard to find single malts. These are produced by one of the great custodians of whisky from Elgin, independent bottlers, Gordon & Macphail. The Connoisseurs Choice collection displays excellent varieties of aroma, mouthfeel, taste and finish. We have selected a few beauties from the vaults that offer different sectors of the flavour map and different regions of Scotland.
Located in the city and Royal Burgh of Elgin, Scotland, is the family owned and managed firm of Gordon & MacPhail. Established in 1895, Gordon & MacPhail has remained proudly independent and family owned throughout its long history.
In the mid-1960s Gordon & MacPhail took the unprecedented step of launching a range of single malts under the brand name ‘Connoisseurs Choice’. Until this time, many of the whiskies the range featured would not have been available as single malt. Today, Connoisseurs Choice retains this exclusive nature with a range of rare and sought after single malts from distilleries throughout Scotland.
If you fancy sampling a host of fantastic malts from rarely seen, uncommon distilleries, such as Alt a Bhainne and Royal Brackla, this is a great opportunity!

*Friday March 6th
*7:45pm – 10pm - £15 per person
*Following on from our Rhone Valley Wine Tasting, this coming Friday we

of Burgundy. Stretching from Dijon down to Lyon, for many this region is
the spiritual home of two very significant grape varieties, Pinot Noir &
We will be looking closely at some top examples of these elegant grape
varieties and the wines of one of Burgundies top Domaines, Louis Jadot.
Dating back to the early 1800′s and with a stunning portfolio from some
very prestigious appellations in the region, this should be a great insight
into the style and history of the region.*
*Burgundy has a higher number of appellations d’origine contrôlée (AOCs)
than any other French region, and is often seen as the most
terroir-conscious of the French wine regions. The various Burgundy AOCs are
classified from carefully delineated Grand Cru vineyards down to more
non-specific regional appellations. The practice of delineating vineyards
by their terroir in Burgundy goes back to medieval times, when various
monasteries played a key role in developing the Burgundy wine industry.

£15 per person. The evening starts at 7:45pm and should be finished around
10pm, to reserve your place please get in touch via email, phone or simply

Bordeaux Wine Tasting
Friday 3rd April
@ Mouton Rouge Wine Merchants
7:45 – 10pm / £15pp
With Easter just around the corner, what better way to spend good Friday than sampling some stunning examples of one of France’s most prestigious wine regions – Bordeaux. The complex, full bodied red wines of Bordeaux have captured the imaginations of enthusiasts for century’s, with their aromatic nature and deep concentrated flavours from the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes.
The town of Bordeaux is situated on the West Coast of France, and benefits from its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean, which regulates it from extreme temperatures. One key to understanding the wines of Bordeaux, and the reasons for their confusing variation in quality, lies in the vast size of the region. It is three times the size of Burgundy, with over 10,000 producers, producing more wine than the entire of Australia.
We will be chatting about the enigmatic history of the region, driven by the merchants, who quickly saw the potential in foreign markets such as the UK and the Netherlands. We will also try to outline the distinction between some of the many different appellations of the Medoc, including soil types, vintages and use of grape varieties.
A great food wine, an ideal match for Sunday’s roast lamb and a real treat for the senses when done right.
This is a chance to learn a little bit more, have a nice social night out and set the taste-buds tingling. With only a few places available in our small store please get in touch asap to reserve your spot
We hope to see you all very soon.
Mouton Rouge Whisky Tasting
7:45 – 10pm / £15pp @ Mouton Rouge
Next Friday will be a first for our whisky tasting sessions, as we focus on the history and range of Single Malt Whisky produced solely by one distillery - Benromach!
A real treat this time round, we will be looking at a host of fantastic expressions produced by one tiny speyside distillery including, 10yr Old, Organic, Peat Smoke, Scottish Barley and Cask Strength, with a little treat or two thrown in for good measure!!
Benromach is a whiskey distillery in Speyside, Scotland. It was founded by Duncan McCallum and FW Brickman in 1898 and is currently owned by Gordon & Macphail an independent bottler based in Elgin. The distillery is based near Forres in Moray and draws its water from the Chapelton source that descends from Romach Hills.
Here’s a little quote to get those tastebuds tingling at the prospect of sampling the entire core range!!
“Using the finest natural ingredients our 3 distillers orchestrate every second of the distillation process; there are no short cuts to perfection. We make it this way to give our whisky that gorgeous pre-1960s Speyside character: beautifully balanced with a light touch of smoke. Making whisky by hand is a rare craft these days. Pour yourself a dram, sit back and enjoy. Slainte!”
Tickets are limited for this exclusive event so please get in touch asap to reserve your spot!
All our very best wishes

After our last wonderful in-store tasting of Burgundy wines, we have decided to keep the ball rolling with a selection of stunning Loire Valley wines from small organic producers. Of all of the wine producing regions in France, none offers a wider variety of dry, sweet and sparkling wines to enjoy on a warm summers day than the Loire.
Built between the 13th and 16th Centuries, the many magnificent chateaux of the Loire Valley served as fortresses, and later as luxurious palaces for the kings of France. With Royal patronage and easy access to the foreign markets of England and the Netherlands, the region, and particularly towns such as Angers, grew rich on the profitable wine trade.
The Loire Valley is the most spread out of France’s wine producing regions and produces a diverse range of wines. The area is dominated by the presence of the Loire, France’s longest and most famous river.
We will be looking at a few hidden gems of the Loire, such as the light red wines from Saumur Champigny, Chinon and Bourgeuil to the crisp, aromatic dry whites of Anjou and Touraine.
This will again be in-store on Friday 8th of August between 7:45 and 10pm. Tickets are limited and cost £15 per person.
We hope to see you all
